A win and two tough losses were the results of Christian County’s trip to Georgetown Saturday. The Lady Colonels took part in the Dan Cummins Softball Classic, which was played at Great Crossing Park.
None of the games played out the full seven innings as a game time limit was in place for the showcase event.
In the opener, Assumption scored four runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to break a 2-2 tie and take a 6-2 win over the Lady Colonels in five innings. The Lady Rockets took advantage of two Christian County errors in the inning to help get their four runs.
Assumption scored one run in the first and another in the second to take the early 2-0 lead. Christian County rallied in the top of the third to tie the game at 2-2. Tenley Gilbert came up with a one-out double after a pair of walks to even the game.
After falling behind in the 4th, Christian County looked like they had a rally going in the top of the fifth. Avery Adcock and Pickle Winkler singled to open the inning. But, Assumption hurler Samantha Schaefer set down Riley Hancock, Tenley Gilbert, and Reni Shemwell in order to end the threat.
Assumption was batting in the bottom of the fifth when the time limit was called. Christian County was limited to three hits in the game, a double from Tenley Gilbert, and singles from Pickle Winkler and Avery Adcock.
Riley Hancock went the distance in the circle, giving up six runs, only two of them earned, on nine hits, striking out two while walking only one.
In the second game of the day, Christian County fell behind early, rallied, but could not quite catch up, as they fell to unbeaten Lexington Lafayette 3-2 in a five-inning contest.
The Lady Generals blended four singles with two walks to plate three runs in the bottom of the first inning and take a 3-0 lead.
Christian County trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third when Avery Adcock doubled and then scored on an RBI single from Riley Hancock.
The game stayed that way until the top of the fifth. Pickle Winkler led off the inning with a walk. Riley Hancock followed that up with a single to give the Lady Colonels runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out. After a sacrifice bunt, Reni Shemwell scored Pickle Winkler on a sac fly to make it 3-2. However, Lafayette got out of the inning when Karlee Crick popped out to short. The game ended at that point due to the time limit.
Riley Hancock finished 2-3 with an RBI. Reni Shemwell and Avery Adcock each added a double for the Lady Colonels, who scored their two runs on five hits.
Gracie Harned went the distance in the circle, giving up three earned runs in four innings, on six hits, striking out two, and walking two.
The Lady Colonels finished their day taking on the Barren County Trojanettes. Christian County scored in five of their six innings as they picked up an 11-5 win. The Lady Colonel bats lashed out 14 hits in the contest.
An RBI single from Karlee Crick gave Christian County a 1-0 lead after one. Christian County would plate four runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. The big hits in the inning were an RBI double from Tenley Gilbert and a two-RBI triple from Pickle Winkler.
After Winkler tripled again in the bottom of the 4th, she scored on an RBI single from Riley Hancock to make it 6-0.
Barren County cut the lead in half at 6-3 in the top of the 5th. Christian County got one of those runs back with a Reni Shemwell sac fly in the bottom of the inning to push it out to 7-3.
The Trojanettes trimmed the lead to 7-5 on a two-run homer in the top of the 6th.
Christian County then put the game away with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Riley Hancock and Karlee Crick had RBI singles in the inning. The Lady Colonels were still batting when the time limit was called in the game.
Riley Hancock was 4-4 in the game with three RBIs and a run scored. Pickle Winkler ended up 3-4 with a double, two triples, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Karlee Crick finished 2-4 with two RBIs.
Riley Hancock went 5 1/3-innings in the circle, giving up four earned runs on four hits, striking out three, and walking two.
With the day, the Lady Colonels now stand at 8-3 on the season. They return to play Tuesday at Marshall County.
