Big First Inning Propels Lady Bears Past Todd Central

Thirteen turned out to be a pretty lucky number for the Butler County Lady Bears Monday evening. The Lady Bears picked up their 13th win of the season rolling past the Todd County Central Lady Rebels 13-3 in Morgantown. Butler County used a big first inning to take control of the game and never looked back.

Things started off promisingly for the Lady Rebels. Haylee Vass drove in a run with a single in the top of the first inning to give Todd Central the early 1-0 lead. Then, the Lady Bears got their chance at the plate.

Butler County started off their half of the inning with seven consecutive hits. By the time the Lady Rebels were able to stem the tide, the Lady Bears had moved out to a 6-1 lead.

The Lady Rebels were able to trim the lead in the top of the third inning. After singles by Abby McPherson and Madelyn Slaughter, Dakotah Gammon came up with an RBI single to make it a 6-2 game.

Butler County got the run back in the bottom of the inning however, and the lead was back out to five runs at 7-2.

The Lady Bears then went on another run of hits in the bottom of the 4th inning, stringing together four straight, three of them for extra bases, as the lead grew to 10-2.

Abby Williams got an RBI single for the Lady Rebels in the top of the 5th to cut the lead to 10-3.

The Lady Bears then closed out the game by plating three runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Abby Williams finished the game 2-3 with an RBI. Madelyn Slaughter was also 2-3 in the game. Dakotah Gammon ended up going 2-3 with an RBI.

The Lady Rebels scored their three runs on ten hits. Errors ended up being costly for the Lady Rebels as they were charged with five miscues over the five innings of play.

Todd Central drops to 5-4 on the year. They return to action Tuesday at home against Franklin-Simpson.
