A change in location Monday for the University Heights Academy Blazers did not work out to their benefit on the diamond. Hickman County scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and rolled on to a 14-0 five-inning win over the Blazers. The game was initially set to be played at University Heights, but school officials announced during the day Monday that the Blazers would instead go on the road.

The Blazers were their own worst enemy on defense in the contest. The Blazers were charged with seven errors over the five innings of play. That included three in the bottom of the first inning when the Falcons jumped out to the 6-0 lead.

The Blazers’ problems in the field continued in the bottom of the 2nd inning. UHA was charged with two errors in the inning as Hickman County plated four more runs to extend the lead out to 10-0. The Falcons would tack on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Hickman County scored their 14 runs on only seven hits for the game.

UHA was limited to only three hits in the game. Seth Hancock, Ty Hunt, and Eli Finch each had a single apiece for the Blazers.

Ian Tyler took the loss for the Blazers, being charged with 13 runs. However, only two of the runs were earned. Tyler did strike out four and walk only two in his 3 1/3-innings of work on the mound.

The loss, which was the Blazers’ fourth in a row and sixth in their last seven games, moves UHA to 5-9 on the season. UHA is back on the road Tuesday at Ohio County.
