Down 9-3 going to the bottom of the sixth inning on Monday, the Caldwell County Lady Tigers got the potential tying run to the plate in the seventh inning before suffering a 9-6 setback to Graves County at the Ratliff Park Complex in Princeton.
A three-run third inning helped Caldwell County (3-6) overcame a 4-0 deficit early and make it a one-run ballgame.
But Graves (4-3) scored five times in the top of the sixth inning to open up its 9-3 advantage.
Caldwell got one run back in the bottom of the sixth inning on Majah Hollowell’s solo home run to center.
In the bottom of the seventh, Presley McKinney drove in two runs with a double to pull the Lady Tigers within 9-6. Hollowell then singled to put runners at the corners and get the potential tying run in the batter’s box.
But a soft liner to center was snared by Graves County for the final out of the inning.
A.J. Hollowell was 3-for-4 for the Lady Tigers while Majah Hollow finished 2-for-3. Harper Holeman and Rylee Thompson each went 2-for-4.
Ebonee Bell led the Lady Eagles at the plate, going 4-for-4 and driving in a pair of runs. Bailey Wimsatt homered for Graves.
Anna Rogers was the winning pitcher, allowing three earned run son 13 base hits.
Illysa Stallins suffered the loss in the pitching circle. She gave up seven earned runs on 11 hits.
Graves never trailed after scoring three times in the top of the second and picking up another run in the top of the third.
Caldwell will next visit Dawson Springs on Tuesday.
