West Uses Bat and Arm to Lead Lady Wildcats Past Hoptown

Emma West pitched a four-hitter and cranked a two-run homer to lead Trigg County past Hopkinsville 14-1 Monday.

The Lady Wildcat sophomore struck out a season-high 11 batters and allowed only one earned run without issuing a walk.

Trigg County scored in every inning but two and racked up 13 hits in the contest. Lillie Cortner got Trigg on the board in the second inning with a two-run single.

West’s first home run of her high school career came one inning later and gave Trigg a 5-0 lead.

Phelan Dossett scored Trigg’s sixth run of the game in the fourth inning when she singled, stole second, and scored on an error.

Hopkinsville got on the board in the fourth when Shaniya Straight was hit by a pitch and scored on an Anna Hodge triple to right field.

After scoring twice in the sixth inning, Trigg put the final touches on the win with a six-run seventh inning highlighted by another two-run single by Cortner and a two-run triple from Rylee Hendricks.

Ashlynn Koch and Audrey Alexander each had three hits for the Lady Wildcats.  Cortner drove in four with a pair of hits, and Makenna Hendricks had two hits and scored three times.

Four different players had hits for Hoptown. In addition to Hodge’s triple, Daijha Owen, Jakayla Grubbs, and Morgan Hodge each tallied singles.

Hopkinsville [0-4] will play at University Heights Academy Tuesday.

Trigg County improved to 2-5 with its seventh straight win over Hopkinsville. The Lady Wildcats will play at Christian Fellowship Tuesday in Draffenville.
