The Christian County Lady Colonels had to rally, not once, but twice, Tuesday evening as they outlasted Marshall County 12-10 in a six-inning slugfest in Draffenville. The game was stopped after the sixth inning due to weather conditions. The win marked the sixth time this season that the Lady Colonels have reached double figures.
The fireworks got started early in the game. Christian County threatened in the top of the first. But, Marshall County was able to get out of a two-out jam with runners on second and third to keep things scoreless.
In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Marshals used three singles and a ground out to score a pair of runs and take the early 2-0 lead.
Christian County’s offense got rolling in the top of the 2nd. With one out, the Lady Colonels strung together five consecutive hits, a hit batter, and a Marshall County error to score four runs and take the lead at 4-2. The big hit in the inning was an RBI double from Tenley Gilbert. The Lady Colonels would add a run in the top of the third to extend the lead to 5-2.
The Lady Marshals got their bats cranked up in the bottom of the inning. Marshall County pounded out five hits, including two doubles, to score seven runs and take a 9-5 lead.
It did not take the Lady Colonels long to get their comeback started. In the top of the 4th inning, Christian County got singles from Karlee Crick and Reni Shemwell to open the inning. A sac fly from Chloe Craft made it a 9-6 game. Tenley Gilbert and Pickle Winkler each drove in a run with a single to make it 9-8.
Marshall County scored a run on a sac fly in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-8.
Christian County took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the 5th inning. Karlee Crick drove in a run with a double, while Gracie Harned drove in two runs with a single. The Lady Colonels would add an insurance run in the top of the 6th on a sacrifice bunt from Avery Adcock.
Karlee Crick led the offensive onslaught from the Lady Colonels going 3-5 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Tenley Gilbert finished 3-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored. Pickle Winkler ended up 2-4, with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Riley Hancock went 3 1/3-innings in relief in the circle to get the win, giving up two runs, one of them earned, on four hits, and giving up one walk.
Christian County improves to 9-3 on the year, while Marshall County falls to 10-5.
