The Christian County Colonels made it two wins in a row for the first time this season Wednesday evening. The Colonels used a big seven-run third inning to springboard to a 12-2 five-inning 8th District win over Fort Campbell at Colonel Field.
Christian County also got a solid pitching effort from senior Chance Henderson, who went all five innings on the mound. Henderson gave up two earned runs on three his, striking out six, while walking three.
The Falcons did not take long to get on the board. Greysen Meyer smashed an RBI double in the top of the first inning to give the Falcons the early 1-0 lead.
The Colonels responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Christian County was able to take advantage of two hit batters and a walk in the inning.
Fort Campbell trimmed the lead back in the top of the second. Landen Rhodd opened the inning with a walk and would advance all the way around the bases, eventually scoring on a wild pitch to make it a 3-2 game.
Christian County got that run back in the bottom of the inning. Josh Snorton got aboard on a single, stole second and third, and then scored on a passed ball to make it 4-2.
The Colonels then delivered the knockout blow in the bottom of the third. Christian County sent 12 batters to the plate as they scored seven runs to blow the lead out to 11-2. Big hits in the inning came from Elijah Underhill and Jacob Jenkins, who each doubled in the inning.
Christian County would then end the game on the 10-run rule when Chance Henderson hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth with one out to extend the lead to 12-2.
Elijah Underhill went 2-4 in the game with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Hayden Hunt finished his day going 1-3 with two RBIS and a run scored.
Ethan Egner, Landen Rhodd, and Carter Timm each had one hit for the Falcons.
With the win, Christian County improves to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in 8th District play. The Falcons drop to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in the district.
