Just over a month after he stepped down as head football coach at Christian County High School, Steve Lovelace has a new football job. Officials at Paducah Tilghman announced late Wednesday afternoon that Steve Lovelace has been hired to be the defensive coordinator for the Blue Tornado. He joins the staff of new head coach Sean Thompson who was hired March 12, leaving Crittenden County.
Lovelace was 100-67 in 14 seasons as Colonel head coach. He was the 2008 Kentucky Coach of the Year after leading the Colonels to the Class 5A state title game. Christian County returned to the 5A state championship in 2010. In both title games, Christian County lost to Highlands.
Lovelace is a 1988 graduate of Mayfield High School. He was an assistant coach under Craig Clayton for ten years at Hopkinsville and then moved over to Christian County as an assistant coach to Mike Whittaker for two seasons, before being named the Colonel head coach in 2007.
