The Caldwell County Tiger baseball team rode the three-hit pitching of Ben Goodaker and a three-run homer from Deontaye Walls in the first inning to a 14-1 victory Thursday over Dawson Springs in five innings at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.

Just two days earlier, the Panthers had beaten the Tigers 7-6 in Dawson Springs.

But Caldwell scored in all four of its at-bats in the rematch, putting up four runs in the first and then a six-spot in the second inning. The Tigers tacked on two runs in each of the third and fourth innings.

Dawson got an unearned run in the top of the third to avoid the shutout.

Goodaker needed to throw just 62 pitches in the five-inning contest, striking out eight and walking two.

Offensively, Walls finished 2-for-3 at the plate with the home run and four runs batted in. Jamus Carneyhan was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Caldwell ended a three-game losing skid with the win. The Tigers are now 4-6 overall and 2-1 in 7th District play.

Dawson is 1-4 and 1-1.

The Tigers are back at the VFW Ballpark today, hosting Trigg County at 5:30.

Caldwell has won its last five matchups against its former district rival. The Tigers hold a 59-22-1 advantage in the all-time series with Trigg.
