Former Caldwell County star Jaylen Boyd ran for 93 yards and a touchdown as the Lindsey Wilson College football team advanced to the NAIA national semifinals on Saturday.
No. 3 Lindsey Wilson used strong play on both sides of the ball to take down No. 5 Concordia (Mich.) 49-27 in the Football Championship Series quarterfinals at Blue Raider Stadium in Columbia.
Lindsey Wilson (9-0) produced 524 yards of offense, the second-highest total yards in a game this season, and limited the Cardinals (6-1) to just 313. Additionally, the Blue Raiders dominated time of possession with 38 minutes and 36 seconds compared to 21 minutes and 24 seconds for the opposition.
Lindsey Wilson trailed 7-0 early but came back to take a 28-7 lead to halftime.
The Blue Raiders had things well in hand throughout the second half. Concordia’s final touchdown came on the final play of the contest.
Cameron Dukes finished 24-for-30 with 285 yards and five total touchdowns for Lindsey Wilson.
Boyd’s touchdown came on a 1-yard dive over the top with 10:17 left in the fourth quarter. That helped make it 42-14.
Boyd also caught one pass for nine yards. He had 21 carries in the rushing game.
The victory sends Lindsey Wilson into the NAIA FCS Playoff Semifinals for a second straight season.
For the first time in the program’s history, the Lindsey Wilson football team will host a national semifinal game, NAIA officials announced Saturday afternoon.
Third-seeded Lindsey Wilson (9-0) welcomes fourth-seeded Keiser (Fla.) to Blue Raider Stadium on Saturday, May 1. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m. CDT.
