Trigg County’s bass fishing team had to battle the elements and a disabled boat to send two duos to next month’s state tournament following Saturday’s Region I Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Barkley.
Mitchell Green and Christian Jones caught five bass weighing 12-pounds, 3-ounces to finish in 13th place. Their big bass weighed two pounds, 15 ounces.
They were forced to switch boats when theirs became disabled. Coach and boat captain Scott Schrock was able to arrange a boat change after his became disabled. He was able to borrow the boat of Clint Huntsman, a former boat captain for Trigg’s team.
After receiving the go-ahead from tournament officials, Green and Jones were able to continue.
Anthony Ethridge and Dominick Sabatino finished one spot Green and Jones in 14th place after catching five bass weighing 12 pounds with a big bass coming in at three pounds, two ounces.
By finishing in the top-20, those teams qualify for the state tournament next month.
Trey Carr and Dallas Ahart finished in 38th place with five bass weighing 8-pounds, 2-ounces.
The Marshall County duo of Ty Redden and Clayton Wyatt won with a bag weighing 17-pounds, 13-ounces. Their big bass was 4-pounds, 14-ounces. They caught their limit in the final two hours of the tournament.
Logan Littleton and Jayden Peach of Ohio County finished second with 15-pounds, 6-ounces.
82 boats left Kuttawa Harbor in the early morning and dealt with steady rain and sometimes windy conditions all day. 67 teams weighed in at least one bass.
The KHSAA State Bass Fishing Tournament will be held May 7-8 on Kentucky Lake.
