Any chance All-American liberbo Gabby Curry might return for an encore season for national champion Kentucky volleyball under the COVID-19 do-over protocols? All-American setter Madison Lilley, the national player of the year, made it clear during the Final Four she was moving on. But Curry and All-American Avery Skinner have not said for sure if they would move on after four years or return for another season.

Curry didn’t say anything during her talk at the UK welcome home celebration in Memorial Coliseum Sunday after the Cats returned from Omaha where they beat Texas in the title match Saturday night. However, Curry’s mom confirmed Sunday that her daughter will not be back

Gabby Curry gave up her final semester of high school to enroll at UK early. She’s finishing her final class this semester to finish her MBA (Master of Business Administration).

“She did think briefly about trying to play overseas, but with COVID … foreign countries are behind us. If we did not have COVID, she would probably go play for a year just to live in another country and learn more about another culture,” Dawn Curry said.

“She has traveled a lot internationally playing volleyball. But it just does not make sense academically to come back another year. She has her MBA. She is just ready to move on.”

Gabby Curry, 22, will enter the business world. She’s already lined up a job as a medical device sales representative with Boston Scientific and has been working five days a week at a Lexington hospital observing and building relationships when she starts work.

“The plan is for her to go to work full-time Aug. 1,” Curry’s mother said. “Her career at Kentucky has just been unbelievable and this job will keep her in the area so she’s really happy about that.”
