Their 21 game losing streak has come to an end. Two years to the day of their last win on the softball diamond, the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons picked up their first win of the season and ended that long losing streak with a 14-1 four-inning win over Clarksville Christian.
With no games played in 2020 due to the pandemic, the previous last win for the Lady Falcons had been on April 26, 2019, when they split a doubleheader with Kenwood, winning the second game of the pair 5-4.
Fort Campbell got things going their way early Monday evening. After a pair of hit batters with one out, Kalli Bannister came up with a two-run single to make it 2-0 Lady Falcons. A ground out and a wild pitch helped extend that lead to 4-0 at the end of the first.
The Lady Falcons then erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the second. Fort Campbell took advantage of six walks and three hit batters in the inning. Jordan Wilkerson added an RBI single in the inning as Fort Campbell pushed the lead out to 13-0 after two.
Clarksville Christian scored a run in the top of the third to trim the lead to 13-1. But, Fort Campbell got that run right back in the bottom of the 3rd inning on an RBI single from Hope Balzeski to make it 14-1.
Fort Campbell would then close out the game by shutting down Clarksville Christian in the top of the 4th.
The Lady Falcons scored their 14 runs on just six hits. Kiley McCrary was 1-2 with 4 RBIs. Kalli Bannister finished 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
McCrary picked up the win in the circle, going four innings, giving up one run on two hits, striking out five, while walking two.
The win improves the Lady Falcons to 1-9 on the season. They are set to return to the field Tuesday when they host Kenwood.
