Jackson Shoulders took a few days away from baseball to try and end his hitting slump. After taking the weekend to clear his head, the Lyon County junior cleared the fence three times in the Lyons’ 8-1 road win at Trigg County Monday.
Shoulders led off the second inning with a homer to left. He added a three-run blast in the third inning and smacked his third round-tripper of the game in the seventh inning. Shoulders also had a single as part of his 4-for-4 night and raised his season average 82 points.
Brody Williams added his fourth home run in the game as part of the 12-hit Lyon attack.
Trigg County got on the board in the first inning when Tyler Ahart doubled and came around to score on a Joe Peca sacrifice fly.
Shoulders’ first homer tied the game in the second inning. Christian O’Daniel later doubled and came around to score on an Austin Long sacrifice fly to put Lyon up 2-1.
Gunnar Bingham and Williams had consecutive doubles in the third inning to increase the Lyon lead to 3-1. Shoulder’s three-run homer came two batters later.
Williams and Shoulders capped the scoring with homers in the seventh inning.
O’Daniel also had a four-hit night, and Williams had two hits and two RBIs.
Bingham picked up the complete-game win, needing only 84 pitches in seven innings to strike out 11 and walk just one. He allowed eight hits.
Ahart and Jay Humphries each had two hits for Trigg County. Isaac Peca took the loss for the Wildcats, with seven of the eight runs allowed earned.
Lyon County improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in district play. The Lyons travel to Christian County Tuesday.
Trigg County dropped to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the district. Trigg will host Calloway County Tuesday.
