McLean County Walks Its Way Past Hopkinsville

hhs-4

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers pounded out ten runs and twelve hits Tuesday evening but it was not enough to overcome struggles they had in the circle at McLean County. The Lady Cougars took advantage of sixteen walks from Lady Tiger pitching as they rolled to the 20-10 six-inning win.

Things started off promisingly enough for the Lady Tigers. Hoptown got doubles from Kaitlyn Kaetzel, Jakayla Grubbs, Morgan Hodge, and Karli Herrera in the top of the first to jump out to the early 4-0 lead.

A big chunk of the damage from the Lady Cougars was done in the bottom of the second inning when McLean County scored 10 runs. The Lady Cougars paired together some timely hitting with four walks and two Hopkinsville errors to turn a 4-0 deficit into a 10-4 lead.

From that point, the game was firmly in the control of the Lady Cougars. McLean County extended the lead to 14-6 after three, and then 18-8 after four innings, as they cruised on to the win.

McLean County’s 20 runs came on only ten hits over six innings of play.

Hoptown’s Anna Hodge finished 2-3 with two doubles and 3 RBIs. Shaniyah Straight was 2-4 with a home run, three RBI’s, and a run scored. Kaitlyn Kaetzel and Karli Herrera added two hits each for the Lady Tigers.

Three Hoptown pitchers combined to give up 20 runs, only ten of them were earned runs. The Lady Tigers were charged with four errors in the game.

The loss drops Hopkinsville to 2-6 on the year. The Lady Tigers are set to be back in action Wednesday evening when they host Fort Campbell.
