Butler County got to Christian County pitching early and then held steady to pick up the 6-2 win Friday night at the South Warren Lumberjack Classic in Bowling Green. The Bears scored two in the top of the first and two in the top of the second to get the early momentum in the game, which the Colonels were never able to get turned back in their direction.
Butler County used a pair of walks and a pair of passed balls to score their two first-inning runs. The Bears tacked together a couple of singles, a walk, and a sac fly to add two more in the top of the second.
An RBI single in the top of the 4th by Chance Castlen extended the lead to 5-0.
Christian County got on the board in the bottom half of the inning when Elijah Underhill walked and then later scored on an RBI single from Houston George to cut the lead to 5-1.
The Bears would score a run in the top of the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to push the lead back out to 6-1.
David Krzywada drove in a run for Christian County with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring Josh Snorton to make it a 6-2 game.
Christian County was limited to just three hits by Butler County pitchers Hunter McKee and Eli Lewis. Those hits came from David Krzywada, Josh Snorton, and Houston George.
Elijah Underhill got the start for Christian County. He went two innings, giving up four runs, three of them earned, on three hits, striking out three while walking three. David Krzywada pitched five innings in relief, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out five, and walking two.
The loss, which was the third in a row for the Colonels, drops Christian County to 3-11 on the year.
