Caldwell County grad Jaylen Boyd had 130 all-purpose yards to help Lindsey Wilson College earn a berth in the NAIA national championship football game.
Boyd and the Blue Raiders put away Keiser (Florida) 38-14 Saturday in Columbia in the semifinals. Lindsey Wilson scored 31 unanswered points after trailing 14-7 in the first quarter.
Both teams entered that contest 9-0. Keiser was the No. 4 seed while Lindsey Wilson is the No. 3 seed.
Boyd ran for 71 yards on 15 carries. He had three receptions for 27 yards. Boyd also returned a kickoff 32 yards.
Lindsey Wilson will face No. 6 seed Northwestern (Iowa) in the championship game on Monday, May 10, at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium in Grambling, Louisiana.
The Northwestern Red Raiders (11-1) outlasted top-seeded and defending national champion Morningside (Iowa) 44-41 in Saturday’s other national semifinal matchup. It was the first loss for top-ranked Morningside in 39 games.
Lindsey Wilson picked up its 50th win in Blue Raider Stadium history with Saturday’s victory, including its 14th straight. The Blue Raiders are now 50-15 all-time at home.
The NAIA national championship game is slated for 6 p.m. CDT on May 10.
