The Fort Knox Eagles picked up their first baseball win over Fort Campbell in just over four years Saturday. The Eagles scored in each of the first four innings on their way to a 10-3 win at Fort Campbell Saturday.
The Eagles got a huge day from starting pitcher Kenneth Schelmety. Schelmety went six innings on the mound, giving up three runs, two of them earned, on four hits, striking out sixteen batters, while walking only two.
Fort Knox scored three runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third, and two more in the top of the fourth to take an 8-0 lead.
Fort Campbell tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Greysen Meyer tripled and then scored on a steal of home to cut the lead to 8-1. Andrew Haughenberry, who walked in the inning, later scored on a passed ball to make it 8-2.
The Eagles converted a walk and a hit batter into a run in the top of the 6th to push the lead back out to 9-2.
Andrew Haughenberry ripped a double to left field in the bottom of the sixth to drive in a run and cut the lead to 9-3.
Fort Knox would then tack on an insurance run in the top of the 7th to close out the scoring.
Haughenberry, Meyer, Ethan Egner, and Travis Doyle each had one hit for the Falcons.
The loss dropped the Falcons to 0-13 on the season. Fort Campbell is set to return to the diamond Monday evening at Webster County.
