Emerson McKinnis drove in five runs with a pair of extra-base hits to back the pitching of Shayla Johnson as Logan County handed Todd County Central a 12-2 district setback in Elkton.
The game was postponed a day to Wednesday due to wet field conditions Tuesday.
Logan got off to a quick start with a three-run first inning. Hailey Collins led off the game with a single and came around to score on an Abby Hinton hit. Grayce Mefford cranked a two-run home run to left to round out the scoring in the opening frame. The homer was her fifth of the season and ties her for the team lead.
Shelby Gettings doubled home a run in the second and later scored on a Todd County error.
McKinnis got her first extra-base hit in the third on a two-run triple to center. She added a two-run double in the fourth to put the Lady Cougars ahead 12-0. McKinnis leads Logan County with 26 RBIs.
Todd County Central got two runs back in the fourth inning. Jocelyn Mock singled and later scored on a Maddie Williams ground out. Madelyn Slaughter added an RBI single for the Lady Rebels.
Johnson improved to 4-5 with the pitching win. She allowed four singles and struck out six. She walked none.
Abby McPherson pitched the final four innings in relief for the Lady Rebels. She struck out six and allowed six earned runs.
Logan County improved to 12-8 with its 11th straight win over Todd County Central.
The loss was Todd County Central’s fourth straight and dropped their record to 6-9. The Lady Rebels will travel to Trigg County Thursday.
