The search will now be getting underway for a new head baseball coach at Hopkinsville High School. Officials with the Christian County Public Schools announced Friday morning that Blake Leach would be stepping away from his position as head baseball coach for the Tigers and would be focusing full-time on his duties as athletic director.
Leach will finish out the season leading the Tiger baseball team, which is among the teams expected to contend for the 2nd Region championship.
In a statement, Leach said “I’ve been coaching for over 23 years and with family obligations and COVID-19 restrictions on sports, the Athletic Director’s job has become more essential and time-consuming to a high school sports program. Though the pandemic is slowly alleviating, the past year has shown me, our athletes need a full-time AD who’s able to focus on the overall health of the Tiger sports program and remains prepared to face any future challenge.”
Leach took over the Tiger baseball program in 2017. As of Friday morning, his record with Hoptown is 57-59.
His 2019 team went 21-14, winning the 2nd Region championship before falling to McCracken County in the sectional round of the state baseball tournament.
This year’s team, as of Friday morning, stands at 11-3 on the season.
