Anthony Babb has resigned as Hopkinsville girls’ basketball coach after a 30-year coaching career in the Christian County school system. The school system made the announcement official Friday night in a media release.
Babb served as Lady Tiger head coach for the past six seasons, compiling a 98-73 record. His teams won 20 or more games in his first three seasons. Hoptown won three district titles and advanced to the region tournament semifinals three times.
Hoptown struggled to a 3-10 record during a COVID-plagued 2020-21 season.
“This was not an easy decision. I have been a part of the game I love since I was nine years old. My desire to coach is still there, but the responsibilities of a head coach are all-encompassing, and I believe it is a good time to step away,” Babb said in the release.
Babb was a standout basketball player at Christian County High School and a member of the school’s athletic hall of fame.
“His impact, influence, and expertise are evident in the lives of the many players and individuals he connected with over the years. We sincerely thank him for his devotion to the youth of CCPS and our community,” said CCPS District Athletic Director Kerry Stovall.
Before taking over as Hoptown girls’ coach, he was an assistant coach with the boys’ team.
“Coach Babb was a great coach and mentor for his team. He taught his players about the value of hard work, setting a culture for the program, teaching players about having good character, and preparing them for life after basketball and high school,” said Hopkinsville High Athletic Director Blake Leach. “Coach Babb showed a great passion for helping and pushing his athletes to be the best they could be.”
