Reni Shemwell homered twice and drove in six runs as Christian County rolled to an 18-5 victory in five innings at Caldwell County on Friday.

Caldwell County honored its three seniors — Allie Felker, Majah Hollowell and Shelby Lane — before the game. But by the time the Lady Tigers came to the plate in the bottom of the first inning the visiting Lady Colonels had already built an 11-0 advantage.

Shemwell’s two-run homer to left got the scoring started and gave Christian (14-4) a quick 2-0 lead. Shemwell would come to the plate again in the top of the first inning and triple home a run on a line drive into the right-field corner.

Gracie Harned and Pickle Winkler each had two-run doubles during the first inning as the Lady Colonels sent 15 batters to the plate.

Shemwell hammered a three-run home run to center in the second inning as Christian extended its lead to 15-0.

The offensive highlight for Caldwell came in the bottom of the third when Felker delivered a two-run homer to left.

But by that point, Christian led 18-4.

Rylee Thompson singled home a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 18-5.

Shemwell finished the day 3-for-4 for the Lady Colonels with the six RBIs. She also scored three times. Winkler was 3-for-4 and drove in three.

Harned and Riley Hancock each went 2-for-3 and knocked in two while Tenley Gilbert and Avery Adock were both 2-for-4 with an RBI as part of Christian’s 16-hit attack.

Harned was the winning pitcher for the Lady Colonels with relief help from Hancock.

Caldwell was limited to six base hits.

Harper Holeman was the only Lady Tiger with multiple hits, finishing the contest 2-for-3.

Christian County plays again on Saturday when it visits 8th District rival Hopkinsville.

Caldwell will next go to Webster County on Monday.
