Heritage Christian Academy got 5 strong innings on the mound from Weston Powell and Carter Glover chipped in 3 RBI to send the Warriors to their 8th-straight win with an 11-5 decision over visiting Cornerstone Christian on Saturday.
Powell found himself in some early trouble with two first-inning singles giving Cornerstone a 2-0 lead. However, the Warriors answered in the bottom of the frame, with Trenton Hayes driving in the first run with a double and David Jent pushing another across with a single.
Leading 4-2 in the bottom of the 4th, JJ Thompson singled to score Hayes and Glover followed with a run-scoring double for a 6-2 score. The Warriors blew it open with 5 runs in their half of the 5th, with RBI by Trentin Fowler, Walker Ashby, and a single by Glover to drive in his 3rd run of the day.
Powell handed off an 11-3 lead to Hayes to start the 6th after allowing 3 runs, only 1 earned, on 4 hits with 4 walks and 10 strikeouts. Hayes walked one and struck out 3 while yielding a single unearned run.
Thompson took over on the mound in the 7th, allowing an earned run on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts.
Thompson, Glover, Hayes, and Jent each hit safely twice to pace the Warriors at the plate. In addition to Glover’s 3 RBI, Thompson, Hayes, Fowler, Ashby, and Grant Floyd each drove in a run.
After playing their previous 7 games on the road before Saturday, the Warriors will be away again on Monday when they face Evansville Christian.
