
A pair of school records by Chase Atkins and Kemaure Mumford helped Hopkinsville take fifth place Saturday at the Owensboro Red Devil Track and Field Invitational.
Atkins shattered the school record in the 3200-meter run by over 30 seconds, winning the race in 9:31.21. He held the previous mark set two years ago.
He missed another school mark in the 1600-meter run by eight seconds.
Meanwhile, junior Kemaure Mumford now has both bragging rights for the school and his family after setting a new record in the discus throw. Kemaure’s toss of 139-feet, 2-inches beat his brother Keane’s old mark set two years ago by nearly three feet. Mumford won Saturday’s event.
As a team, Hopkinsville scored 48 points to finish behind Owensboro, North Hardin, John Hardin, and South Warren.

The 3200-meter relay team took third place with a time of 8:50.66.
The 1600-meter relay team of Chance Jones, Brunson Boyette, Zahnte Brown, and Kentrell Adams came in sixth place in a time of 3:50.47.
The 400-meter relay team of Kentrell Adams, Brandon Combs, Zahnte Brown, Tahj Jones finished in ninth place in 49.79 seconds.
