Hopkinsville rode the arm and the bat of Morgan Hodge to beat Fort Campbell 5-2 Tuesday and wrap up the No. 2 seed in the 8th District Softball Tournament.
Hodge allowed just three hits and one earned run over seven innings. She also provided a two-run double that broke open a 3-1 game and gave the Lady Tigers some needed insurance.
Fort Campbell got on the scoreboard first when Alexsa Hoffman walked and stole second. She advanced to third on a groundout and scored on an errant Hopkinsville throw.
Hoptown evened the contest at 1-1 in the third when Danija Rogers was hit by a pitch and came around to score when a ball off the bat of Thorson was misplayed in the Lady Falcon outfield. Jakayla Grubbs added an RBI hit to push Hoptown ahead 2-1.
Shaniya Straight coaxed a bases-loaded walk in the fourth ahead of Hodge’s insurance hit in the fifth.
Hannah Thorson had Hoptown’s other extra-base hit – a double.
Kalli Bannister and Olivia Connor had Fort Campbell’s two hits.
Kiley McCrary struck out five and allowed four Hoptown hits for the Lady Falcons in the circle.
Hoptown improved to 4-8 and will play University Heights in the first round of the district tournament. The Lady Tigers travel to Trigg County Thursday.
Fort Campbell drops to 5-11 and will host University Heights Academy Thursday.
