Lady Wildcats Snap Scoreless Streak, Hold Off Hoptown

Trigg County had failed to cross home plate in 22 innings stretching four games entering Thursday. The Lady Wildcats overcorrected by scoring 14 times in a 14-11 win over Hopkinsville to snap a four-game losing streak.

Trigg only managed eight hits in the game with no player getting more than one.  However, five of the eight hits came with runners in scoring position.

Hoptown grabbed the early lead in the third when Kaitlyn Kaetzel walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Anna Hodge.

Trigg answered with a six-spot in the home half of the third. Olivia Noffsinger, Riley Taylor, and MaKenna Hendricks each had singles with Hendricks tying the game with her hit. Emma West followed with a two-run single to left.

Ashlynn Koch rounded out the scoring in the frame with a two-run double to left.

Hoptown got a run back in the fourth when Karli Herrara singled, scored two bases, and crossed home plate when Hannah Thorson grounded out.

The Lady Tigers took the lead in the fifth inning with six runs.  Morgan Hodge doubled with the bases loaded to cut the Trigg lead to 6-4. Herrara followed with a triple and scored on an error to tie the game at six.

Thorson drove in her second and third runs of the game with a single that put the Lady Tigers ahead 8-6.

Trigg County bounced right back with seven more runs in the fifth inning without a hit to recapture the lead at 13-8.  Trigg took advantage of five walks, two Hoptown errors, and two hit batters.

Hoptown added three runs in the seventh before Avery Wade induced a flyout to right to end the game.  Wade got the win in relief after pitching the final two-and-two-thirds innings, allowing just three hits.

Hendricks and Koch each drove in three runs, while Hendricks and Taylor each scored two runs for the Lady Wildcats, who picked up their ninth straight win over Hoptown.

Anna Hodge led Hopkinsville with three hits with Herrara adding two hits. Hoptown falls to 4-9 with the loss and will host Todd County Central Friday.

Trigg County makes the trip to Smithland to face district foe Livingston Central Friday.
