Heritage Christian Academy got some level of revenge against the team that handed them its first KCAA loss of the softball season. The Lady Warriors scored six times in the first inning and held on for an 11-8 win over Micah Christian Saturday in Hopkinsville.
Heritage came into the game ranked No. 4 in the KCAA Power Poll, one spot behind Micah Christian of Louisville.
The Lady Warriors struck quickly as Hadlee Hayes, Kailyn Stanley, and Kate St. Martin notched RBI singles in the inning.
Each team traded runs in the second inning with Heritage getting its run when Chloe Ginn singled and scored on two Micah errors.
Down 7-1 in the fourth, Micah rallied to tie the game thanks to six hits in the inning. Madison Gravens tripled, and Leah Sears followed with a two-run single. Gravens later added an RBI hit in the inning.
HCA took the lead for good in the fourth inning when Ginn tripled and scored on an error.
The Lady Warriors added some insurance in the sixth inning when Halie Zieg recorded an RBI single. She scored on a Stanley groundout.
Ginn had three hits and scored three runs for the Lady Warriors. Hayes, Zieg, and Kinley Deason each scored twice. The Lady Warriors took advantage of nine Micah errors and six walks.
Freshman Kennedy Hughes got the pitching win for HCA. She retired six of the last eight batters she faced and struck out 12 batters, including the rare four-strikeout inning in the second. She gave up eight hits and didn’t walk a batter.
Heritage opened the season with a 19-7 loss to Micah on March 26 in Louisville. HCA evened its record at 3-3 in KCAA play with the win.
The Lady Warriors are scheduled to host AIE Friday.
