Hoptown Takes 9th Place at Raider Classic

Hopkinsville had some strong individual performances and relay finishes to help them to a ninth-place finish Saturday at the Warren East Raider Classic.

Zahnte Brown had a pair of top-two finishes in the hurdle events. The Tiger senior won the 110-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 17.45, winning by nearly three-quarters of a second over South Warren’s Charlie Hendrix.

He finished second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.30 seconds.

Chase Atkins came in third place in a hotly-contested 800-meter race. Atkins ran a 2:02.73 to finish three seconds behind Daviess County runners Brady Terry and Logan Gish.

Chance Jones notched a fifth-place finish in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:57.37.

Eighth-grader Kentrell Adams took 12th place in the 400-meter run and broke the minute barrier with a clocking of 59.86.  Adams later finished 17th in the 200-meter dash in 26.89 seconds.

Jonathan Bridges finished 14th in the 3200-meter run, covering the distance in 13:16.85.

In the field events, eighth-grader LaTravean Sharbar was 19th in the long jump, while fellow eighth-grader Treston Kay was 21st.  In the triple jump, Kay was 14th and Sharbar 15th.

In the throwing events, eighth-grader Alden Marshall was 19th in the discus throw and 22nd in the shot put.

Two of Hoptown’s relay teams turned in a season-best times.

The 1600-meter relay team of Chase Atkins, Chance Jones, Ross Binkley, and Zahnte Brown came in third place, five seconds out of first.

The 3200-meter relay team of Chase Atkins, Quinn Miller, Ross Binkley, and Chance Jones finished in fourth place with a time of 8:43.70.
