Todd County Central baseball coach Greg Shelton reached a significant milestone Tuesday when the Rebels beat Russellville 10-0. The victory was the 1,000th as head coach in a career that spans six decades and three states.
Shelton won 678 games as Franklin-Simpson head coach from 1976-2004. The Wildcats won six region and 11 district championships during that time. He coached Franklin-Simpson to the school’s lone state championship in 1991.
Shelton coached in Tennessee after leaving Franklin-Simpson and returned to coach Russellville from 2012-14, amassing a 65-42 record. He then moved to Christian County for two seasons in 2015-16, winning two district titles and winning 52 games.
Shelton moved to Florida and coached high school baseball in the Fort Myers area before returning to Kentucky and taking the Todd County Central job. The Rebels are 17-9 and are on pace for one of the school’s best seasons in the program’s history.
Shelton has a record of 812-391 at Kentucky schools, which ranks as eighth-most in state history and third among active coaches.
