Caldwell County 8th grader Rylee Thompson made a pair of nice grabs in right field to keep Trigg County off the scoreboard. Caldwell won 9-1.
Three Caldwell County players accounted for 11 hits and five runs to lead the Lady Tigers to a 9-1 road win at Trigg County Tuesday.
Harper Holeman showed why Caldwell coach Seath Butts trusted her to be the designated hitter in the contest. The eighth-grader responded with four hits and drove in a pair of runs in raising her season batting average to .414.
Holeman drove in the game’s first run in the opening frame with a single that scored Shelby Lane who reached on a two-out error.
Caldwell tacked on four runs in the second inning as Presley McKinney laced an RBI double that scored Alicia Stanley. Sophomore A.J. Hollowell added a two-run double and later scored on a groundout.
Hollowell had four hits from the leadoff position and scored three times.
Trigg’s lone run came in the second inning when Rylee Hendricks singled, advanced to third, and scored on a groundout.
Caldwell pulled off the rare two-RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth inning when Allie Felker flew out to the deep right field corner. Rylee Thompson scored from third, and A.J. Hollowell tagged from second and scored.
Holeman capped the game’s scoring in the sixth inning.
Thompson kept Trigg County off the scoreboard in the sixth inning with the eighth-grader making a pair of nice grabs in right field, the second coming with runners in scoring position.
In addition to her defense, Thompson had three hits and scored twice for Caldwell County who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Ilyssa Stallins scattered six hits and didn’t walk a batter in getting the win in the circle.
MaKenna Hendricks had two of Trigg County’s six hits – all singles. The Lady Wildcats are 5-13 and have dropped six of their last seven games. They will travel to University Heights Academy Thursday.
Caldwell County upped its season mark to 9-12 and will play at Marshall County Thursday.
