Todd County Central High School freshman Jocelyn Mock could not be stopped Thursday, delivering hits in all five of her at-bats and leading her softball squad to a 23-4 thrashing of host Fort Campbell. It was the first time Todd Central eclipsed over 20 runs in a single game since March 22, 2018 — also against the Falcons.
Mock went 5-for-5 with five RBIs and helped the Rebels capture their third win in their past four games. Her RBI hits gave TCCHS leads of 2-0 in the first, 14-0 in the fourth, and 20-4 in the fifth. Her bases-clearing double in the bottom half of the fifth inning was her second two-bagger of the game.
The visiting Rebels also drew 11 walks in the victory and got a pair of inside-the-park home runs from Samatha Case and Abby Williams. Case was no slouch herself at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with four runs and four RBIs. Her inside-the-parker gave Case her team-leading fifth HR of the 2021 campaign. Williams went 1-for-2 with four runs scored of her own, to go along with a trio of RBIs.
Todd Central led 5-0 after three innings, but struck for nine runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to trigger the mercy rule. Williams (3-3) pitched three innings and got the win for the Rebels, striking out five and giving up four runs. Haylee Vass was nearly perfect in her two innings of relief, giving up two hits and fanning a pair.
Fort Campbell (6-13) did get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, when Kiley McCrary stroked her first triple of the season, scoring Alexsa Hoffman and Samantha Forristal, who singled and walked to start the frame. The Falcons scored all four of their runs in their fourth, as Hope Zalzeski delivered an RBI single and Danika Gonzalez was hit by a pitch with the bases juiced.
The Rebels (11-12) host Union County on May 21 in Elkton.
