The top half of the University Heights Academy baseball order came through in a massive way Thursday, leading the visiting Blazers to a 17-7 road win over Webster County High School. The six-inning affair saw its fair share of crooked numbers, including 24 runs, 27 hits, and six Trojan errors in Dixon.

UHA did the bulk of its damage in the first three innings, building a 12-0 lead before Webster could even blink. Eston Glover and Matthew Leeper, who combined to go 7-for-8 with six runs and six RBIs, got the party started with an RBI double and RBI single, respectively, in the top of the first inning.

Seth Hancock and Ty Hunt, who were equally impressive with a combined four hits, seven runs and five RBIs, continued the onslaught in the second inning with run-scoring singles. The foursome of Hancock, Hunt, Glover, and Leeper — Nos. 1-4 in the Blazer lineup Thursday — had all 11 hits, 13 of the 17 Heights runs, and accounted for 13 total bases.

Webster County did manage to put together a four-run fourth inning, mostly off the bat of Zach Meadors’ three-run home run, but never got within eight runs the rest of the way. Glover (2-0) earned the complete-game win. He did allow three consecutive singles to start the final inning in the sixth, but eventually induced a key groundout and got Landon Braden to fly out to end the contest.

Jackson Edens (0-1), making his first start of the year, gave up six hits and eight runs in two innings pitched. He struck out none and walked two during the tough outing. Besides Meadors’ homer, Edens did have the best night of any Trojan at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, and an RBI.

UHA (12-17) has five regular-season games remaining. The next three are at home, including a May 21 matchup with Trigg County. The Blazers topped the Wildcats 4-3 in the teams’ 2021 season opener on March 29.
