The Christian County Lady Colonels put an end to their three-game losing streak Friday night. Playing in the Meade County Mighty May Matchup, the Lady Colonels held off a comeback attempt in the final inning by Allen County-Scottsville and took the 7-5 win in a six-inning time-limited contest.
Christian County got on the board first Friday night. Karlee Crick connected on an RBI single in the top of the first to give the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead. The lead grew to 2-0 in the top of the third when Gracie Harned, who has been on a hitting tear as of late, drove in Pickle Winkler with a single to make it 2-0.
The Lady Patriots used three straight singles and a Christian County error to plate two runs in the bottom of the fourth and even up the game at 2-2.
Karlee Crick got her second RBI of the night in the top of the fifth as she scored Pickle Winker with a sac fly to give the Lady Colonels the lead back at 3-2.
Christian County then looked like they had put the game away in the top of the sixth inning. The Lady Colonels scored four runs in the inning, three of them coming on bases-loaded walks or hit batters to take a 7-2 lead.
However, the Lady Patriots still had some fight left in them. Allen County-Scottsville saw its first five batters reach base in the bottom of the sixth on a walk, a double, a single, a single, and a walk, and suddenly the lead was down to two with no outs, and the tying run at the plate. But the Lady Colonels were then able to get out of the inning without any further damage as they took the two-run win.
Pickle Winkler ended the game 2-3 with three runs scored for the Lady Colonels. Gracie Harned was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs. Karlee Crick also finished the game 2-3 with two RBIs.
Harned went 5 1/3-innings in the circle, giving up five runs, four of them earned, on seven hits, striking out two and walking two.
Christian County returns to action Saturday in the Meade County Mighty May Matchup.
