Lady Colonels Drop a Pair at Meade County Mighty May Matchup

Saturday turned out to be a tough day for the Christian County Lady Colonels. Meade County took the Lady Colonels out of the game early in a 10-0 win for the Lady Waves, while Collins got a walk-off single in the final inning of a 7-6 win over the Lady Colonels at the Meade County Mighty May Matchup.

The first game of the day saw Meade County freshman Callie Wiles limit the Lady Colonels to three hits over five innings as her teammates pounded out ten runs in the win. The Lady Waves did most of their damage in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they scored eight runs.

The first eight batters for Meade County reached base safely in the inning, three of them by error and another two by walk. Another Lady Colonel miscue in the bottom of the third helped lead to two more Meade County runs. For the game, Christian County was charged with four errors. Five of Meade County’s runs were logged as unearned.

Reni Shemwell, Karlee Crick, and Gracie Harned had a hit each for the Lady Colonels.

The second game of the day saw Collins rally from a 5-1 deficit to walk off a 7-6 win in a time-limit five-inning game.

Christian County looked to be in good shape after 2 ½ innings, leading 5-1. The Lady Colonels got RBI singles from Riley Hancock and Aalaisha McGregor to take a 2-0 lead. After a Collins run in the bottom of the first, Pickle Winkler came up with an RBI single to make it a 3-1 game.

The Lady Colonels would add two more runs in the top of the third on an error and an RBI single from Avery Adcock to extend the lead to 5-1. And then came the bottom half of the inning.

Collins led off the bottom of the third with back-to-back-to-to-back singles. The Lady Titans then score four runs on two ground outs and a double to tie the game at 5-5. Collins then took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a home run from Katelyn Walsh.

In the top of the 5th, Christian County loaded the bases with one out on singles by Chloe Craft, Avery Adcock, and a Collins error. The Lady Colonels would tie the game at 6-6 when Riley Hancock was hit by a pitch.

The bottom half of the inning saw the Lady Titans load the bases with three straight singles to open the inning. Christian County was able to get a force play at the plate for the first out, but Ella Staples came up with a one-out single to end the game.

Pickle Winkler was 3-4 in the game with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Riley Hancock went 2-2 with two RBIs. Chloe Craft finished 2-3 with two runs scored. And, Avery Adcock ended up 3-3 with an RBI.

The two losses drop the Lady Colonels to 19-12 on the year. They return to action Monday on the road at McCracken County.
