
Hopkinsville beat Caldwell County for the second time this season, holding on for a 10-6 baseball win on Monday at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.
Zach Moss hit a three-run home run in the first inning and finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBIs for Hopkinsville, which never trailed in the contest.
Jacob Dilday doubled home two runs in the top of the third inning to give Hoptown a 5-0 advantage.
Caldwell did get back to within 5-4 through three innings but could never draw even.
A Hopkinsville error allowed two runs to score while two more came in on wild pitches as part of Caldwell’s four-run third.
Moss singled in a run with two outs in the fourth to give Hoptown a 6-4 lead.
Hopkinsville put together a two-out rally in the fifth to make it 9-4. Landon Snyder had the key hit with a two-run single.
Caldwell cut the gap to 9-6 in the bottom of the fifth. Brady Holeman singled in one run while another scored on a wild pitch.
Hoptown added one more run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Dilday.
Ryan Myers went 3-for-5 with a triple for Hopkinsville. Dilday finished 2-for-4 and drove in three while Snyder was 2-for-4 and knocked in two. Tim Cansler was 2-for-2.
Snyder was the winning pitcher, working the first five innings and allowing four earned runs on six base hits. He struck out four and walked four.
Cansler tossed the last two innings, striking out three without giving up a base hit.
For Caldwell, Tate VanHooser was 3-for-3 with a double.
Hoptown is now 17-8 while Caldwell is 11-12.
With its two wins this season, Hopkinsville has regained the lead in the all-time series with Caldwell 35-34.
Hopkinsville next visits Marshall County on Tuesday.
Caldwell is now off until the 7th District tournament next week.
