The second-seeded Hoptown tennis duo of James Folz and Spencer Powell picked up a pair of wins at Monday’s 2nd Region tennis tourney, setting up a semifinal matchup on Tuesday and clinching their place in the upcoming state tournament.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Folz and Powell met Fort Campbell’s Gabe Gorsuch and Mitch Petros, dispatching the Falcon pair 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.
They had to wait to find out their quarterfinal opponents, with UHA’s Shahyan Khan and Zohaib Iqbal having to win two matches to set up the match.
The Tigers started quickly with a 6-0 win in the first set but dropped the second and battled to a 7-5 win in the third to send them into Tuesday’s semifinal against Caldwell’s Billy Wallace and Graden Miller.
Also in doubles play, Mark Llanes and Ve’Shawn Blount received a first-round bye before ending their day with a 1-6, 0-6 loss to Henderson County’s Mason Bridgeman and Brayden Dhom.
