
Hopkinsville’s singles players won three of their four matches Monday on the opening day of the Region 2 Tennis Tournament in Henderson.
Sophie Maddux, the region’s No. 2 seed, got off to a slow start against UHA’s Mitali Patel and dropped two straight games. She rallied to win the match 6-2, 6-1 and breezed into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Webster County’s Maggie Jones.
Maddux will face No. 4 seed Zoe Lawrence of Henderson County in the semifinals and has qualified for the state tennis tournament. Lawrence advanced to the semis with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Madisonville’s Megan Oakley 6-3, 6-2.
No. 3 seed Abby Moss won her opener against Lyon County’s Zoe Board 6-0, 6-1 and then had to wait over two hours for her second round quarterfinal match where she lost to Henderson County’s Kendall Warren 7-5, 6-3.
