Playing in their regular-season finale on Thursday, the Christian County Colonels were undone by a four-run sixth inning for visiting Muhlenberg County in a 5-1 loss to the Mustangs.
The Colonels drop three of four to head to the postseason at 7-18 overall and will host UHA on Monday in the 8th District tournament. They split a pair of games with the Blazers during the regular season.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, the Colonels broke through after Elijah Underhill was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a two-base error. Brylle Javier followed with a single to edge the Colonels in front.
Underhill handed off to Broden Kellum after working three innings on the mound and holding the Mustangs to a single hit with six strikeouts. Kellum allowed a single to the first batter he faced in the fourth and Muhlenberg tied the game on a two-out double by Cole Scott.
David Krzywada took over on the mound in the sixth for the Colonels, recording one out before a walk and a double put runners on second and third. The first of four runs came in on a wild pitch followed by an RBI single by Isaac Rose to make it 4-1.
Krzywada took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on a pair of hits and two walks. Kellum worked two frames and surrendered a single earned run on two hits with a walk. Carter Sholar got the last five outs, allowing a hit and striking out one.
