A total of six Top 5 finishes Wednesday for the Hopkinsville Tigers at the Class 3A Region 1 track and field championships at Marshall County High School. Those finishes helped to carry the Tigers to a fifth-place team finish at the meet.
Chase Atkins was responsible for a pair of those top finishes. Atkins took second place in the boys’ 1600m with a time of 4:25.64. Jackson Watts, of Madisonville-North Hopkins, took first place at 4:18.05. Atkins’ teammate Chance Jones finished third in the race at 4:38.94
Atkins also took second place in the boys 3200m. His time of 9:42.93 once again placed him right behind Madisonville’s Jackson Watts, who won with a time of 9:16.54.
In addition to his third-place finish in the 1600m, Hopkinsville’s Chance Jones took 6th place in the boys 800m.
Zahnte Brown claimed a Top 5 finish for the Tigers in the 110m hurdles. Brown’s time of 16.46 put him in second place behind Ashton Weaver, of Apollo, who logged a time of 16.38. Brown also took 9th place in the 300m hurdles.
Kemaure Mumford had a strong performance in the discus. His throw of 136-10 placed him third, behind Ben Fiser, of Marshall County, and Leandre Bolen Jr., of McCracken County.
The Tigers took home a third-place finish in the 4 x 800m relay. Hopkinsville finished sixth in the 4 x 400m.
The Tigers 5th place team finish placed them behind: 1. Owensboro, 2. Marshall County, 3. McCracken County, and 4. Daviess County.
