The Trigg County Wildcats wrapped up the regular season by sweeping a pair of games from Fort Campbell Thursday evening at the Trigg County Recreation Complex. The Wildcats won the opener 15-4 in six innings, and then took the second game 15-6 in five innings. The second game was stopped due to lightning in the area.
In the opener, the Wildcats scored ten runs in the first three innings and then cruised on out to the run-rule win. Trigg County effectively won the game in the bottom of the first inning when the Wildcats scored five runs. The big shot in the inning was a two-run double off the bat of Aaron Despain.
Trigg would add four more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Hunter Reynolds had the big hit in the inning with a two-run double.
From there it was a matter of playing it out, as Trigg County reserves saw most of the action after the second inning.
The Falcons did make things a bit interesting in the top of the 5th inning when they scored four runs to cut the lead to 10-4. The Falcons took advantage of two Trigg County errors and two walks to score their runs. However, the Wildcats shut the rally down and then closed out the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning and then three more in the sixth.
Both teams had their troubles in the field as each was charged with three errors in the game.
Andrew Williamson, Aydan Joiner, and Tyler Ahart all had two hits each in the game. Jacob Hunter and Bryce Cunningham drove in two runs each.
Andrew Haughenberry had two hits to lead the way for Fort Campbell.
Andrew Williamson pitched two big innings in relief for the Wildcats, not allowing a run and striking out four.
In the late game, Trigg County broke open a close game with nine runs over the third and fourth innings to get the 15-6 win. The Wildcats were leading 6-4 after two innings when they erupted and put the game away.
Trigg County scored four runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third, and then sixth in the fourth inning.
The Wildcat offense pounded out 18 hits in picking up the win.
It was a big game for Bryce Cunningham as the Wildcat went 3-4, with 5 RBIs and a run scored. Joe Peca was 3-3, with 3 RBIs and two runs scored. Andrew Williamson finished 2-3 with an RBI and four runs scored. Hunter Reynolds was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Travis Doyle led the way for Fort Campbell, going 2-3 with two runs scored. Landen Rhodd was 1-2 with two RBIs.
Both teams will now return to action Monday in district tournament action.
