Lady Colonels Take Care of Lady Maroons 7-2

The Christian County Lady Colonels used a four-run sixth inning to help put an end to their three-game losing skid as they picked up a road win at Madisonville. The Lady Colonels knocked off the Lady Maroons 7-2, despite being outhit in the contest 13-8.

One of the storylines in the game turned out to be fielding miscues for the Lady Maroons. Madisonville-North Hopkins was charged with five errors in the game. Two of the errors came in the fifth and sixth innings where the Lady Colonels scored six runs.

Christian County got on top early in the game when Karlee Crick hit a sac fly, driving in Pickle Winkler to give the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Crick reached base on an error by the Lady Maroons in the top of the fifth. Pickle Winkler scored on the play to make it 2-0. Crick would then score on an RBI single from Tenley Gilbert to extend the lead to 3-0.

Madisonville rallied in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs to cut the lead back to one at 3-2.

Christian County then put the game away in the top of the sixth. Pickle Winkler, Riley Hancock, and Gracie Harned all drove in runs in the inning as the Lady Colonels scored four times to push the lead out to 7-2.

Gracie Harned then shut out the Lady Maroons over their final two at-bats as Christian County claimed the win.

Pickle Winkler boosted her batting average with a 3-3 performance. Winkler had one RBI and scored three runs. Riley Hancock and Karlee Crick each drove in a pair of runs for the Lady Colonels.

Gracie Harned gave her team seven solid innings, giving up two runs, on 13 hits, striking out four, while walking only one.

With the win, the Lady Colonels move to 20-13. They are scheduled to wrap up the regular season Saturday morning on the road at Owensboro Catholic.
