Caldwell County mashed three home runs as part of a 16-hit night on its way to an 18-1 drubbing of Trigg County in the regular-season finale for both softball teams.
Shelby Lane smacked a three-run homer through the windy conditions that highlighted an eight-run Caldwell first inning. Alicia Stanley added a solo shot in the second inning, and seventh-grader Adley Lewis cranked a walk-off grand slam to end the scoring and the game in the third inning.
Majah Hollowell led the Caldwell offense with three hits, and Lane and Lewis each drove in four runs. Lane, Allie Felker, and A.J. Hollowell each added two hits.
Trigg managed just three hits in the contest, but its defense did them no favors with four errors leading to nine unearned runs for Caldwell County.
The Lady Wildcats got on the scoreboard in the third inning on two Caldwell errors and a groundout.
Trigg [8-16] will play Lyon County in the 5th District Tournament semifinals Monday at 11 at Lee S. Jones Park.
Caldwell County has won 31 of the 36 career meetings with its southern neighbor since the switch to fastpitch in 1995. Trigg’s only win in Princeton in 13 career meetings came in 2016.
Caldwell County evened its season slate at 13-13. The schedule for the 7th District Tournament has been an ever-changing event. Caldwell will now host Hopkins County Central Monday at 7:00 at Ratliff Park.
