The Trigg County boys’ track and field team finished third at the Class 2A region meet Saturday in Paducah and will send at least two individuals and two relay teams to the state meet next month in Lexington.
Jaquellus Martin finished first in the 200-meter run and second in the 100.
Paducah Tilghman’s Luke Birdsong edged Martin and Calloway County’s Aaron Fennell at the line in the 100. Fennell was third.
Martin got his revenge in the 200 with a time of 22.5 seconds to edge Birdsong at the tape. Fennell was third in this race also.
Austin Cavanaugh won the 1600-meter run in a time of 4:48. He was also fifth in the 800-meter run [2:13.6]
The 3200-meter relay team of Ryan Simpson, Riley Thompson, Marshall Jenkins, and Austin Cavanaugh won by eight seconds over Paducah Tilghman with a time of 8:45.9.
The 1600-meter relay team of Jaquellus Martin, Austin Cavanaugh, Riley Thompson, and Ryan Simpson also qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish in 3:42.4.
Trigg County totaled 66 points to finish behind region champion Calloway County [162] and runner-up Paducah Tilghman [156].

The 400-meter relay team of Peyton Williams, Riley Thompson, Joseph Crawford, and Kelsey Parham took fourth place in 49.8.
The 800-meter relay team of Parham, Williams, Jaquellus Martin, and Ryan Simpson also took fourth in a time of 1:36.8.
