Elijah Underhill pitched the Christian County Colonels into the 8th-District title game with a fifteen strikeout performance in a 2-1 victory over University Heights on Monday. The Blazers fail to advance in the district tournament for the third-straight year and end the season at 12-21 overall.  The Colonels will face Hopkinsville in the title game looking for their sixth-straight championship.

After a dropped third strike and a walk to start fifth, UHA took a 1-0 edge when Eston Glover hit into a fielder’s choice to bring in Seth Hancock.

With the season on the line, Christian County answered in the bottom of the sixth, with Underhill drawing a one-out walk and Brylle Javier coming through with an RBI double to tie the game.

Joshua Snorton doubled on the first pitch he saw from UHA’s Luke Welch, bringing in Javier to nudge the Colonels in front.

After a lead-off single for the Blazers in the seventh, Underhill struck out the next two batters before giving way to Preston Phan.  Phan walked the first Blazer he faced before getting a strikeout with runners on first and second to end the game.

Underhill allowed an unearned run on four hits with fifteen strikeouts and a pair of walks.  He was also 2/2 at the plate.  Javier and Snorton each had a hit and a run batted in, and Carter Sholar had a hit.

Welch allowed two earned runs on five hits to suffer the loss.  He struck out nine and walked two.
