The Hopkinsville girls’ doubles team of Ella Brown and Grasen Givens won their opening-round match at the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament Tuesday in Lexington.
Brown, a sophomore, and Givens, a junior, beat the 10th Region runner-up tandem of Sofia Allen and Elise Henderson of Scott High School 4-6, 6-4, 1-0, taking the tie-breaker 10-4.
Brown and Givens owned a 4-3 advantage in the first set before the team from Scott won the final three points and the set.
Up 5-4 in the second set, the Hoptown team was able to break serve and force the tie-breaker.
The Hoptown two saw their run at state end in the second round to the tournament’s No. 9 seed K.K. Ditto and Maddie Stevenson of Central Hardin 6-0, 6-0.
