The Hopkinsville girls’ doubles team of Allie Fort and Ella Lester won their state tournament opener in quick fashion before falling to the defending state runners-up in the second round Tuesday.
The sophomore duo beat 14th Region qualifiers Madison Fugate and Malory Miller of Letcher County Central 6-0, 6-0 in just 35 minutes in their opening round match at the Boone Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Kentucky.
However, the 2019 state runners-up awaited them in the second round. North Oldham’s Reagan Mangan and Willow Renton won 6-0, 6-0 in a match that was briefly delayed due to rain.
It was the second straight time Lester and Fort won their opening match and advanced to the second round at state.
