Last week Kentucky coach John Calipari indicated he was ready to go to a “four-out” offense next season which means he obviously believes Kentucky is going to be a good shooting team.

That’s why he added transfers Kellan Grady and CJ Frederick and freshman signee TyTy Washington is also a terrific shooter.

But Calipari has been known to embellish more than once during the offseason. However, Tuesday came more confirmation about the shooting from junior Jacob Toppin during his media session during UK’s satellite camp at Thomas Nelson High School in Bardstown.

“We have a lot more shooters. Even the freshmen, they’re shooting the ball really well,” Toppin told media members. “It’s going to be different. We’re going to be able to space the floor more.”

He praised freshman Daimion Collins and said he reminded him of Isaiah Jackson, last year’s best freshman at Kentucky. But he said Washington and Bryce Hopkins are also doing well.

“The transfers, CJ and Sahvir (Wheeler), they’re doing well. We’re all doing well together,” Toppins said.

“I’m excited. I’m definitely excited because everyone brings something to the table and I think we’re going to have a good year. It’s definitely going to take some time for us to build that connection, build that trust within one another to play better.

“But I think we’ll be good. We’re all meshing well right now, so as time goes on, as we play more together, we’ll get that connection.”

  1. In a four man out offense that doesn’t leave much room for a big man which means UK – with Oscar, Lance Ware and Daimion Collins – will have a couple if big men sitting in the bench most of the time. It’s hard for me to believe John Calipari – who loves low post basketball and high post pick and roll – will go to a four man out and leave talented big guys in the bench in crunch time in a game but we shall see. I hope he makes me a believer
