Returning for a junior season was not something Keion Brooks thought he had to announce

God bless Keion Brooks Jr.

He’s a modern-day player with the old school mentality we don’t always see and Kentucky fans should embrace his return for a junior season.

Many Kentucky fans were upset that Brooks had not “announced” he was returning for another season like several other players at UK had done and many more across the country do each year.

But guess what? He didn’t see any reason to announce he was staying where he had been playing.

“I was just focused on getting better,” Brooks told media members at the UK basketball satellite camp in Elizabethtown Friday. “I don’t know where all the hoopla and speculation came from (about his future). Probably because I didn’t come out and announce it.

“To me, it’s not really a big deal. I don’t see why I should have to announce I’m coming back to school.”

Say amen BBN. All those fans who say they don’t like the one-and-done concept should love a player who saw no reason to announce he was staying in school for a third year.

“I guess that’s what people look for now. My head was just down in the gym, in the weight room, working on my conditioning, trying to get back to being 100 percent,” Brooks, who missed the first part of last season with a leg injury, said.

Funny how there was a time during my 46-years covering Kentucky basketball that a statement like that would be the norm. But not now and that’s why Brooks is the kind of player UK fans should love.
