
Sophie Galloway won three events and helped Marshall County to a top-five finish at the Class 3A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington Saturday.
Galloway set a new Class 3A record in the triple jump on her first attempt. Her leap of 41-feet, 4-inches bettered her own state record of 40-07 for all classes that she established two years ago.
She won the long jump by nearly a foot over Woodford County’s KaMari Black. Her first jump of 18-feet, 10.75 inches was Galloway’s best of the day.
Galloway easily won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.10 seconds, which was 1.44 seconds ahead of Anderson County’s Amiya Jenkins.
The time broke the Class 3A record of 14.29 seconds set by Shandy Boyd of Valley in 1992 and tied by Kianna Gray of North Hardin in 2014.
In the high jump, Tori McCracken finished in sixth place with a height of five feet that equaled her region height. Presleigh Jenning was 12th at 4-feet, 10-inches.
Jordyn Reed placed 13th in the long jump at 15-10.75.
Rylee Thompson was 23rd in the triple jump with a distance of 30-feet, 11.75 inches.
The 800-meter relay team of Laney Evans, Charley Pursley, Layne Pea, and Jordyn Reed finished 11th in a time of 1:49.62.
The same group ran the 400-meter relay and finished 15th with a time of 52.05. Both times were season bests.
Georgia Hall was 13th in the discus throw with a heave of 98-05, while Maci Brown was 15th with a distance of 94 feet.
Alyssa McClain was 16th in the shot put with a toss of 31-feet, 6.5-inches.
Marshall County totaled 33 points to finish fifth in the team standings. Dupont Manual edged West Jessamine 58-53 to win the school’s first state title since 1975.
