David Weber to Take Over Hopkinsville Baseball Program

The new baseball coach at Hopkinsville High School will not be someone who is unfamiliar to the area baseball scene. During a media conference Monday afternoon, the former baseball coach and current AD, Blake Leach announced the selection of David Weber to be his successor with the program.

Weber just finished his 5th season on the staff at Austin Peay University, and his 4th as the hitting coach with the team. He joined the Governors in 2017 as a volunteer assistant.

Weber had a short stint as the coach of the Hoptown Hoppers during the summer of 2017. His tenure ended just 18 games into the 2017 season when he was then promoted to be a full-time assistant coach within the Austin Peay baseball program.

Weber began his playing career at Northwest Florida State College before transferring to Northeastern State University where he was a two-time all-conference player with a .315 batting average.

The hire marks the second time that a Christian County public school has selected a Hoppers coach to serve as head coach. Grayson Crawford was the Hoppers’ first coach while coaching at Christian County in 2013-14.

Interestingly, both Weber and Crawford replaced Blake Leach in their new gigs.
